The second book chosen to be featured in this exhibit is Touring Arcata’s Architecture by Susie Van Kirk. This book is a little different from the other two books. It is a smaller paperback book, only 53 pages. And instead of organizing the book by time periods and styles, it is divided by the geography of Arcata. Kirk is very literally touring you through Arcata in her book, starting with North Arcata and working her way through Central Arcata and ending with East Arcata. Each section focusing on specific historical pieces of architecture in that geographical area. Because the book is so portable, it feels like almost a tour guide for Arcata, noting each building's address and illustration. Page 23 will be featured from this book, 916 13th Street. This page was chosen because the particular house focused on this page is very interesting in its architectural style. Van Kirk includes its construction, architectural influences, ownership, and sale price in a short paragraph below the illustration. Each building selected for this book includes similar information.
