Entries (Articles)

The entries in the dictionary range from how to identify plants, various designs for field ploughs, to tables used in medicines; they are arranged in alphabetical order and printed in double coloumns on the page. The included illustrations are woodcuts and take up anywhere from a quarter to a half of a page. Each article tries to be thorough in the description of its subject and was composed using the sources as seen in the catalogue located at the beginning of the book.

Having cited sources exemplifies the type of scientific knowledge that was valued at the time: reviewed and published materials; however, this does contradict the larger trend of "going back to nature" philosophy of the time. This book does not value indigenous knowledge nor knowledge that would be passed down through generations of farmworkers. Instead, it puts the knowledge and the power in the hands of an educated/centralized individual who would then direct workers/servants to complete the work.
