Handel received various influences when creating his music books, many of his inspirations came from the street cities. These compositions included the musically noted sheet music as well as lyrics. This particular music book displays music that could be used by choirs. Handel’s most famous works were his operas. However, this particular piece was an oratorio which became Handel’s format after his operas. Handel’s Songs: Selected from His Oratorios for the Harpsichord, Voice, Hoboy, or German Flute, Vol. 1, was one of the oratorios he created. Oratorios were similar to operas but lacked the costumes and sets that operas had.
